With its distinct features and familiar values, it is the Camry we have grown to love only equipped with a hybrid system featuring the latest technology.

Having been launched in Australia this month, the 2.4L Hybrid Camry is the first locally produced Hybrid vehicle and is seen to represent one of the most significant developments in Toyota’s 50 year history in Australia, with the potential to change the Australian automotive landscape, and enable all Australian motorists around the country the opportunity to have an affordable and environmentally friendly vehicle in their driveway.

The Toyota Hybrid Camry is the end result after months of government lobbying for incentives to produce the next generation Hybrid. With a $35 million subsidiary, the Hybrid Camry will be the second vehicle in the Australian Toyota HSD range after the new Prius.

Engineers have tuned the car’s suspension and steering specifically for the Australian market so it meets the demands of local drivers and their families. The Hybrid Camry encompasses a design that projects superior aerodynamic performance and innovation.

With the combined power of around 140kW from its 2.4L petrol and electric motor, the Hybrid Camry will produce around 150g per km of CO2. Toyota expects the Hybrid Camry will use up to at least 35% less fuel that its locally built 6-cylinder competitors, and save drivers hundreds of dollars a year in fuel consuming just 8.8 litres per 100km* on the official cycle.

The vehicle will feature a third generation Hybrid Synergy Drive drive train, 16 inch 10 spoke alloy wheels, an Optitron display with a fuel consumption gauge instead of an odometer. With its ultimately low fuel consumption, it is likely to rival the popular Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon.

Toyota plans to build 10,000 vehicles a year for the domestic market and export 300 vehicles to NZ, with a possibility of looking towards exporting to the Asian marketing in 2011.

The Toyota Hybrid Camry joins the line-up at Brian Hilton Motor Group this month. Contact our friendly and professional staff to book a test drive.

*Fuel consumption will vary depending on driving conditions/style, vehicle conditions and options/accessories.
